  1.      THE DXHUNTER 5.2: MAIN FUNCTIONS WITH BRIEF DESCRIPTION
  2.  
  3.      *DXHUNTER is a DOS, shareware, freely distributable program for PC and
  4.      TNC modem (note: no BAYCOM modem support), for DX CLUSTER users.
  5.      You  can  run  DXHUNTER  in a DOS  session  simultaneously  with  your
  6.      favourite  programs, such as your log: PIF and ICO files are included,
  7.      to  use the program under Windows, so you'll not have to abandon  your
  8.      dear old LOG program, when adopting DXHUNTER.
  9.  
  10.      *Automatic  DXCC data import from different log types (such as DXBASE,
  11.      TOPLOG, EASYLOG...).
  12.  
  13.      *Alert on New Ones: you can set an alert type and an alert duration;
  14.      you  can  choose between 5 different new one classes to accept  (cell,
  15.      band,  mode, band/mode, total). Allowed alert types are SOUND,  MUSIC,
  16.      CW and VOICE; the CW and VOICE alert types execute the spelling of the
  17.      alerted  spots (call and frequency) also on the PC speaker, making  it
  18.      possible to remotize alert events via radio.
  19.  
  20.      *You  can  enable the announcement of any incoming spot, wich will  be
  21.      performed  in CW or VOICE, by spelling spot's call and frequency, also
  22.      on the PC speaker (useful for people who are blind).
  23.  
  24.      *Some  special features allow you to decide which alerts to accept, at
  25.      a  spot's  CALL/FREQUENCY level; the band planning can be adjusted  to
  26.      your needs.
  27.  
  28.      *Automatic  connection/reconnection  to  the DX CLUSTER, also  via  an
  29.      unlimited  number of intermediate nodes: your presence is not  needed,
  30.      even when the link drops.
  31.  
  32.      *Antitimeout function, to avoid inactivity disconnections.
  33.  
  34.      *A monitor mode function allows you to operate also when disconnected;
  35.      a  smart anti spot repetition function avoids identical spots  display
  36.      (this filter is active also when operating in connected mode, to avoid
  37.      looped  spots repetition). The monitor mode function supports also the
  38.      special spot format used on forward links, between cluster nodes!.

  40.      *Incoming new ones are saved apart, on an active list: once you select
  41.      an item from this list, you can play it (in CW or VOICE), you can send
  42.      its  frequency to your RTX via RS232; the spots that currently  result
  43.      to be more probable (because they were received into a one hour window
  44.      centered on current z time) are displayed marked.

  46.      *DXPED and SKED reminder, with automatic deletion of expired events:
  47.      when  a  DXPED becomes active a visual warn is displayed; when a  SKED
  48.      becomes active, a phone-like alert is executed.
  49.  
  50.      *Prefix  recognition without errors: the DXHUNTER is probably the best
  51.      in  the  world in recognizing simple or slashed prefixes; if you  keep
  52.      the  data  base updated, by adding or deleting prefixes  when  needed,
  53.      you'll  get  the  best  from this program. An  on  line  prefix  check
  54.      function,  allows you to check for any prefix getting useful info such
  55.      as country name, needs, heading, QRB, sunset and sunrise.

  57.      *Filter  on far away originated spots: some DX CLUSTERS collect  spots
  58.      being  originated  from  far  away sites (i.e. spots  coming  via  the
  59.      Internet);  very  often the far away originated DXes are not  feasible
  60.      for  you; if you want to exclude alerts on these spots, you can act on

  64.      the  originating field (DX de...) by filtering any originating country
  65.      you  want  (unwanted  spots will not be alerted but  still  displayed,
  66.      anyway).

  68.      *Remote control on RTX via RS232 port. This control includes frequency
  69.      and  mode setting on the RTX; the control can be manual (you  manually
  70.      type  in the desired frequency and mode) or fully automatic (linked to
  71.      the last received spot or the new one list).

  73.      *Voice keyer (Sound Blaster like card needed): you can record up to 10
  74.      voice  messages  on the fly and then send them back with a snap,  with
  75.      PTT activation on a selected COM or LPT port.
  76.  
  77.      *Audio  loop recorder (Sound Blaster like card needed): you can record
  78.      up  to 25/30 seconds of audio onto a circular RAM buffer (thus without
  79.      disturbing  your  Hard  Disk);  you can keep  your  recording  session
  80.      working  for  unlimited time; at any time you'll be able to play  back
  81.      the  last  25/30  seconds  of the  current  recording,  marking  audio
  82.      portions  to  relisten, with saving capability; you can also select  a
  83.      slower  or faster playback with 12 speed levels: useful for CW/Scatter
  84.      relisten.   A  switch  signal  to  redirect  audio  to  headphones  is
  85.      included.

  87.      *Text  and audio file capture/storage functions (for audio features  a
  88.      Sound   Blaster  like  card  is  needed);  a   multimedia   text/audio
  89.      archiviation  program  is  included;  during  the  audio  playback  an
  90.      hardware switch is activated, to redirect the audio to the headphones.

  92.      *Automatic CW Key (from 5 up to 100 WPM); you can simulate your CW key
  93.      with  very  regular transmission with simple keystrokes  or  recalling
  94.      preset  strings; the key switch is performed via a selected COM or LPT
  95.      port, in a CT like standard.
  96.  
  97.      *Unlimited  spot word search function; you can search for any word you
  98.      want  on an entire DX spot, or just on the comment field; you can also
  99.      search  for  IOTA  or  LOCATOR strings in the comment  field;  when  a
  100.      searched word is found, an alert is executed.

  102.      *Full support for communication ports with non standard IRQ & AD.

  104.      *RF  disturb  robustness:  some programs block when  RF  disturbs  the
  105.      serial  port;  the  DXHUNTER simply warns you that you're  causing  RF
  106.      disturbs and you might loose data.
  107.  
  108.      *Screen capacity selectable, up to 50 text lines.

  110.      *Automatic  talk reply in NOHERE state: you can set a standard message
  111.      that  will be automatically sent as an answer to anybody attempting to
  112.      talk  to you, when you are in a NOHERE state, and a flashing led  will
  113.      be activated to warn you.

  115.      *Save  disk space option (when enabled, all the lists are kept limited
  116.      in size).

  118.      *Night  mode  feature,  with  blank screen operation  (the  screen  is
  119.      restored when an alert occurs or at user's keystrokes).

  121.      *Minimum  hardware requirements (the program runs on any PC, from 8088
  122.      up, also from floppy disk).

  129.      *TCP connecting facilities such as autologin, autopassword, autotelnet
  130.      and so on...

  132.      *Link to DXTelnet, in order to get and analyse spots directly received
  133.      via the Internet.

  135.      *Self  documented  functions,  with  on line brief  help  comments  in
  136.      english  language;  a  printable, justified and page  formatted  ASCII
  137.      manual  in english language is also included; the manual is  schematic
  138.      and  complete  at  the same time; it has been divided  into  different
  139.      sections  for  easier  info retrieval (italian  language  program  and
  140.      manual  also  available upon request); the manual also  includes  some
  141.      schemes  to  build the simple required interfaces (PTT, audio  switch,
  142.      RS232<>TTL to drive the RTX).

  144.      This, and much more, make the DXHUNTER a unique program.
  145.      Believe me, it will raise up your score dramatically.
